HOLLYWOOD DISPLAY

COSTUMES WORN BY STARS. A magnificent display of frocks and accessories worn by leading actresses in recent Hollywood productions was presented at the Regent Theatre last night in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The parade, which included frocks to the value of £20,000, was presented by White’s Fashion Corner, and was supported by musical and stage items. The display was opened by the Mayor (Mr. F. A. Kitchingham). He sa'id that the fund, for which the display was held would provide parcels for men overseas. He referred to the large number of New Zealand prisoners of war and the need for support of the appeal to provide them with comforts. Mr. G. B. White returned thanks to all the local firms who had helped —Harley and Co., Schaef’s, Ltd., Tymon’s, Lawn’s, Hannah and Co. : Mrs. Gore, Miss Bush, Mrs. Bush, Norton’s, Holley’s, and Miss ’M. Birch, Miss M. Trott, Mr. Len Schaef, The Manager, Mr. Millar, and Staff of Regent Theatre a'nd Staff of White’s Fashion Corner. The theatre was filled, and the audience showed enthusiastic appreciation of the parades of gowns from the Hollywood Glory Box. The display of current fashions by White’s Fashion Corner, including street frocks, dinner gowns, and furs, also attracted very favourable attention. The wedding scene was of particular interest. A touch of comedy was introduced by Messrs W. Roughan and K. Fehsenfeld, wearing the cowboy suits of Gene Autry and John Wayne in recent productions, and by Mr. Syd Ellis in the pyjamas worn by Joe E. Brown. The accompanists were Mesdames C. Parfitt, W. Baird, Z. Munson, and M. Cawley. Mr. A. Christensen conducted the orchestra.

Parade No. 4: Mr. Keith Fehsenfeld, wearing the cowboy outfit Worn by Gene Autry in “Goldmine in the Sky.” He also sung “There is a Goldmine in the Sky.” Mr. Roughan wore a cowboy outfit worn by John Wayne in* his latest picture. Parade No. 5: M'ss Clark wore a threepiece rose beige ensemble worn by Barbara Stanwyck in the film, “Golden Boy.” Miss Miriam Trott wore the black and white frock worn by Marlene Dietrich in the role of Bijou in “Seven Sinners,” Solo: Mrs. Doreen Wylde. Parade No. 6: Miss Mo'ra Wootton wore an Elizabethan court gown worn by Bette Davis in ‘ The Private Lives of Ellzabethm and Essex.” Parade No. 7: Miss Kath Thomson wore' a black

' dinner gown worn by Rita Hayworth in the film “Before I Die.” Miss Eileen Hannan wore a grey ninon evening gown worn by Irene Dunne in “Penny Serenade.” Miss Rona Peillon wore a silver sequined creation worn by Betty Grable in “Down Argentine Way.” 'Parade No. 8: Afternoon frocks from White’s Fashion Corner. Parade No. 9: Miss Joan Walker wore a' Tyrolean costume worn by Deanna Durbin in “Spring Parade.” M ; ss Walker sang a suitable song. Solo: Mrs. Prescott. Brown in “So You Won’t Talk.” A ballet was arranged by Miss M. Trott.
