FOR PACIFIC FRONTS

U.S. WAR MATERIAL DELAYED.

NEW SHIPS IN PROSPECT.

(Rec. 8.50.) WASHINGTON-, Feb. 21. The Maritime Commission has announced that five cargo ships, aggregating over fifty thousand deadweight tons have been launched today in United States shipyards. Two ships of ten thousand tons each were launched earlier this week. The Commission added that fourteen keels have been laid this week. It predicted a rate of two launchings daily would be attained by May. This announcement follows the reports that huge piles of crated war materials are piling up on the American wharves, awaiting urgentiyneeded cargo ships to transport them to the Pacific fronts. Therefore, it is believed, th e present “bottleneck” in the supply of shipments will shortly be broken.
