A Montreal cable states: Leading Aircraftsman John Ellis, of Auckland, became the first airman to receive wings at the Number Nine Bombing Gunnery School at Mont Joli, in Quebec Province, when lie graduated head of his class. Cameron, Barrytown); Sergeant Donald McBain, (mother Mrs. A. A. Mcßain, Cobden); Pte. Ronald Gordon HayMackenzie, (father, Mr. A. HayMackenzie, Westport); Pte. Charles Henry Hearn, (mother, Mrs. E. L. Hearn, Greymouth); Pte. Maurice McCormack (father, Mr. M. McCormack, Westport).

The death occurred tat Auckland last night of Mr Arthur Thomas Newdick, aged 51 years, manager of Newdick Bros., Ltd., butter, produce and general merchants, as the result of a trotting track accident. Mr Newdick was closely associated with trotting for over 20 years. In conjunction with his brother, he successfully raced a number of horses. In his fall while driving Moko Direct in the Papakura Handicap at Epsom last Saturday, Mr Newdick received severe head injuries. Three other drivers were less seriously injured. —Press Assn.
