Hig'h Tides, Port of Westport: Monday, 13—2.34 a.m.; 2.56 p.m. Tuesday, 14—3.33 a.m.; 4.6 p.m. Wednesday, 15 —4.51 a.m.; 5.35 p.m. Thursday, 16—6.18 a.m.; 6.51 p.m. Personal: Mr Tom Fountaine, Eltham, has arrived in Westport for the celebration of his father’s 96th. birthday. Mr Bronckman, of Malaya, on a tour of the Dominion, visited Westport, en route to the South Westland Glaciers Mr L.’j. Bayfield left yesterday on return to The Chateau, Tongariro, National Park. Constable McQuarrie, Karamea, left for Hokitika yesterday, following Constables R. Walden and F. Monteith of Westport, who left the previous day, to assist in the police search. Mr C. Friend, President of the Westport Branch of the Society for Closer Relations with Russia, is visiting Wellington in connection with business of the Society. Mr Charles Fountaine, Westport’s grand old man, celebrates his 96th. birthday to-day, and will be the recipient of congratulations from a legion of friends. Mrs Champion, who has been visiting Fairdown as the guest of her sister, Mrs J. Ward, leaves to-day fpr Invercargill. Advice has been received at the Army Office to the effect that S.S.M. C. K. Patrick has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and appointed as Quartermaster to Riccarton Camp. Corporals P. Sanders and R. P. Dobson of the National Military Reserve, left yesterday for Christchurch, to take a course of training in the machine-gun section. Mr and Mrs W. Marshall, Orowaiti Road, Westport, have received word from their son, Stewart, that he is a prisoner of war in Germany. Stewart was previously reported missing f"om operations in Crete. Mr J. Hutchison and Mr L. Hutchison of Westport, left for Koiterangi on receipt of w'ord that Mr Gregory Hutchison, son and brother respectively of Messrs J. and L. Hutchison, had been a victim of the further shooting at Koiterangi. The following is a list of men proceeding to the Army Tank Brigade at Waiouru on October 15:—Harvey, L. (Kongahu); Perkins, E. W. There was an excellent attendance at the adjourned annual meeting of the Buller Caledonian Socety, held in the Orange Hall, last evening. Past Chief S. Strachan, in the temnorary absence of the Chief, presided. Minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. The annual report and balance-sheet snowed the finances to be in a sound position. Election of officers resulted; Chief, G. Blair, re-elected; Chieftains, Messrs A. E. Ferguson, P. Sanders, Lunney, Parker, Burt, F. A. Ferguson, A. Fox, and J. Hunter; Ladies’ Committee, last year’s available members re-elected, with the addition of Mrs J. Hunter; Treasurer, Mr G. Aitken; Auditor, Mr P. A. Struthers; Secretary, ' Mr P. Sanders, pro. tern; Pianist, Mrs Curtis. Sixteen new members were elected. The Secretary’s action in booking the Theatre Royal for the annual Hogmanay Ball on December 31, was endorsed. It was decided to hold the annual Halloween celebrations. Business over, dancing became the order, with an interval for supper. Mr Gibson presided at the piano and Mr Lunney acted as M.C.
