REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent). REEFTON, Sept. 16. There is still no news of Mr Michael Sullivan, an aged resident oi Merrijigs, who has been missing tor several days. The bush nearby has been thoroughly searched, also Deep Creek. At a meeting of the Patriotic Committee there were present Messrs A. W. Bell (chair), Mellott, Jas Patterson. J. B. Discaciati, B. Mirfin, S. Whitehead, J. Smith and W. B. Auld (secretary). The provincial secretary advised 220 scarves was Reefton’s quota of 4000 required, also socks. Mr Hagen wrote re a discharged soldier who had received no money for six weeks. A letter from a lady in England requested the classification of goods forwarded. Mr Hagen advised cotton goods could not be forwarded. Inangahua Committee forwarded £8 10s. Mr Mirfin stated Ikamatua ladies. were this week holding a bazaar for the fund. Mr Bell stated an entertainment is to be given in Reefton, preferably on a Saturday evening by the Inangahua Concert Party, and Reefton Committee were asked to make arrangements and obtain petrol. Mr Discaciati asked that country residents save empty petrol boxes and heavy brown paper. It was decided to to ask the County Council to set up a representative committee to welcome returned men. It was resolved to send a parcel for one soldier who had left Reefton without receiving one. Mr Bell said the committee needed better support from Reefton residents. The secretary stated £2360 18s 4d had been received to date.
