The death occurred at Westland Flospital yesterday of Mr Ja;nes Alexander Hemera, a native- of Orepuki, Southland. Deceased, who was a sawyer, had resided on the West Coast for many years and lately, at Kumara. He is survived by his wife, two sons, James and Thomas, and three daughters, all- of Kumara The funeral takes place at Karoro Cemetery, to-day. >

Mr R. Coulter, the former Mayor of Te Aroha and the retiring Councillors were made presentations by the citizens of the town on Wednesday evening. To Mr Coulter, Mayor for the past, 20 years, an oak rolltop desk was presented; to the former Deputy-Mayor (Mr G. Hedge), a grandfather chiming clock; to a former councillor (Mr W. E. Smith), a mantel clock; and to Messrs W. C. Kennedy and F. Firkin, both former councillors, gold-mounted fountan pens.

Dr. H. S. Ray, who enters camp next Friday with the Medical Corps, was entertained at Revington’s Lounge on Thursday afternoon by members of the Greymouth Lawn Tennis Club, of which he was president, and representative of the West Coast and Greymouth Tennis Assns.
