SOUTH ISLAND RESULTS Up to £33 per Acre P a. CHRISTCHURCH, July 22 Figures are now available from thfl’x linen flax factories in the Dominion. The highest average return for an individual crop was 4's lOd an acre, .at Otago. The figure per a«e for afl of the crops acepted and rejected, ranged from £9 19s to £1 aC The factories concerned are. Washdyke, Makikihi. Otautau, Bed clutha, Winton and Tapanui. In the Makikihi area, 27 crops averaged £9 19s an acre, the lowest figure for the six factories An average was taken over all of the ciops rejected and accepted, and, °f course the averages for the accepted ci ops were the higher. The average for an accepted crop was £l3 6s 4d per acre. , At Washdyke. 22 crops averaged £lO 4s 6d over all. the highest returning £2l Ss lOd an acre and the accepted crops an average ol 113 ns lOd per acre. At Otautau, 32 crops averaged £l2 6s 9d per acre, with the highest return one of £l9 18s sd, and the average for the accepted crops £l2 11s lid per acre. There were 26 crops at Balclutha, which averaged £l3 3s per acre, the highest accepted returning £23 os 2d. and the average for accepted crops being £l6 4s 2d an acre. At Winton, the average of 3U crops was £l2 14s 3d. the highest accepted returning £2l 6s lOd. and the average accepted giving £l3 17s lid an acre. 7 t Tapanui, where 40 crops were grown, the average was £l4 19s. lhe • highest figure for an accepted crop was £33 4s lOd per acre, the highest figure of the series. The average ; for the accepted crops was £l9 4s some districts, shortness of straw and other factors prevented crops being accepted, but unexpect- . edly heavy seeding brought some rei turns to very high figures —in some ■ cases to about £2O an acre.
