Mr. C. L. Kettle, returned yesterday from Waimate. Miss M. Venn, returned from Christchurch' by yesterday’s express. Miss D. Callan, W.A.A.F. left last evening on return to Ilarewood Aerodrome. Mr. L. D. Teasdale, Railways Department, Greymouth, left last evening on return to Dunedin. Seaman Neil Roberts, N.Z. Naval Station. Auckland, arrived yesterday on a visit to relatives in Hokitika. Mr. and Mrs. J. McKenzie. Mrs. A. Smith, Miss D. Cornish, Mr.’ L. Lester. were passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch. The death has occurred at Wellington of Mr. William George Fellingham, Secretary of the National Ritte Association, for the past eleven years. The following are guests at the Albion Hotel: Mr E. C. Robinson, Mr A. Cossar, Mr S. AV. Clarke (Cnristchurch). Mi- L. Chalk (Palmerston North). Mr S. Cannington. Certain and Mrs R G. Tregidea (Nelson;, Mr W. Whiting (Nelson), Mr C. Dona.dson (Wanganui), Mr P. Roper (Auckland). The death occurred at Wellington on Sunday, of Sir George Shirtcliffe, chairman of directors of A. S. Paterson and Co. Ltd., and a former chairman of directors of the Wellington Trustee and Agency Co. Ltd. Born at Worksop, England, 79 years ago, deceased came to Christchurch with his parents in 1864. He served on the Wellington City Council, the Wellington Harbour Board, Avas a past president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and had been a member of numerous Royal Commissions. He was also a prominent member of the Anglican Synod. On his retirement from the chairmanship of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in March, he invested an endowment of £20,000 with the University of New Zealand to enable students of outstanding ability and character, but who lacked means, to continue their studies. _____
