MENINGITIS CASE

IN TWO MILITARY CAMPS. P.A. AUCKLAND, July 20. Diagnosis of two suspected cases of meningitis, one from Rotorua Military Camo and the second from Ngaruawahia Camp, has shown that each case was positive. The two men are stated to be progressing favour ably. The case from Rotorua was admitted to Rotorua Hospital on Friday, and that from Ngaruawahia to Waikato Hospital on Thursday. Following the placing of a ban on leave and on visitors to Ngaruawahia Camp, a similar ban has been enforced on the camp at Rotorua. The official view is that the cases are isolated ones, and that their occurrence in military camps is not in any wav a reflection on military control. Nevertheless, full precaut'ons are being taken bv the Armv authorities. “No recurrence is anticipated," sa d Brigadier P. H. Bell, D. 5.0., Office: Commanding the Northern Military District. “All contacts will be kep' in isolation for the required per ocl. When, after examination, it has been shown that there is definitely no infection, they will be released from isolation. Until this has been done, the restrictions must he mainta ned.”
