Only 60 out of approximately 1000 drivers’ licenses have as yet been renewed by the Grey County Council. The last day of renewal is May 31, and to avoid a last-minute rush with consequent delays, motorists should renew their licenses without delay.

Keen interest is being taken ’in the official count of votes east for candidates in the Southern Riding of the Grey County, as, in the preliminary count only four votes separated the lowest successful candidate (Mr. John Ryan), and the highest unsuccessful candidate (Mr. G. Blair). The official count will take place this afternoon.

Official advice ha's been received in the Dominion confirming earlier cabled advice that in view of a large number of Rhodes Scholars-elect having had their scholarships suspended for the. duration of the war, the trustees have therefore decided not to hold any elections for 1942 scholarships. This means that no Rhodes scholars will be selected in New Zealand during 1941.—Press Association.

At a meeting of the Blaketown W.I. Mrs. Moreland (president) presided over a large attendance of members, seven new members being welcomed. Arrangements were made for the second birthday to be held on May 29. Mrs. R. Stewart gave a very interesting talk on the aims of the Institute. The roll call (a wartime economy) brought forth some very good suggestions. For the social half-hour a' community sing was enjoyed. The competition winners were': Stool (Mrs. Longstaff and MrsL. Stewart), equal first; Beetroot Mould (Mrs. Mitchell); Bowl of Flowers, Mrs. L. Stewart. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Banks, Brown, Anderson, Collins and Coll. The singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting.
