The death occurred r.t Gisborne recently of Mrs Johanna Brodie, a former resident of the West Coast. Born in Hokitika, a member of the Moore fami/y of Hai.hari, deceased resided in Gisborne for many years. Her husband predeceased her many' years ago, wh.le one son, Andrew, was killed recently while serving in the- Royal Air Force. She is survived by one son in Sydney, and two married daughters, one in France and the other a resident of Napier. Tne late Mrs W. B. G.lbert of Greymouth, was a sister.

The death occurred last evening after an il.ness lasting six weeks, .of Mr Thomas Hynes, of Nelson Creek, a former well-known footballer. Deceased, who was born at Nelson Creek 44 years ago, had been employed for a number of years by the Grey County' Council. As a member of Nelson Creek football teams, he was a well-known player in the League code a few years ago. He is survived bv three- sisters, Me-dames E. Hill and T. Burr (Nelson Creek), and A. Madden (Christchurch), also three brothers. Messrs Patrick Hynes (Ahaura), John and James, of Nelson Creek. The funeral takes place tomorrow, leaving St. Patr.ck’s Church, Nelson Creek, for Ahaura Cemetery.
