“GLANASHEEN”

Another Big House FOR SECOND PERFORMANCE. The second performance of the Irish Musical Comedy, “Glanasheen” attracted another packed house last night, when another high standard of entertainment was presented. Those taking part were able to present their numbers without the disti actions of the unrestrained hilarity of the juvenile section of the audience, through which the audience on the opening night was forced to miss some of the more humorous pieces of Irish wit. Again last evening, Mr Stan Prescott excelled as the leading vocalist, his part as the owner of a luxury yacht being one for which he was splendidly cast. As Pauline Everitt, friend of the wife of the captain, Miss Gladys Foster had a most difficult part to play, but he r acting was excellent throughout. Associated with Tom Doran (Mr Bill Connor) in the principal comedy role, Miss Daphne Aldridge as Molly Molloy, put plenty of fun into her part, the pair beingone of the most effective combinations seen on the Greymouth stage for some time. The orchestra, capably led by Miss H. Petersen, L.T.C.L., again discharged its heavy task in a praiseworthy manner. “Glanasheen was a triumph for the productive ability of Mr Bill Connor, ably assisted by Mrs E. McDonnell, the work, of whom again indicated the ability, with which Greymouth residents of talent can prepare and produce a show not at all inferior to many professional shows which visit these parts. At the conclusion of last evening’s performance, bouquets and gifts of sweets were handed to members of the cast, whilst the male members received various gifts of a humorous nature

Mr A. M. Carroll, joint-Secretary of the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations Committee, in a brief speech thanked all who had assisted both in the proI gramme and during the celebrations held during'the past few days. Henry for the lighting effects and Mr Jim Rhodes for the scenery. Mr Carrol] paid a striking tribute to the fine work accomplished by the producer, Mr Bill Connor, to Mrs E. McDonnell for her supervision, and to the company for their willing co-op eration. He also thanked the orchestra for its valuable contribution, the Marist Brothers and Sisters of Mercy for arranging the children’s items and the Convent Orchestra. Mr Carroll also thanked Mr A. E. Kilgour for his work in the booking arrangements, Harley and Co. for the loan of furniture and Mesdames Hamilton and Barrett for making the children’s frocks, and also mentioned the assistance given by the Greymouth Highland Pipe Band on the opening night and the press. The singing of “God Save Ireland” brought to a close a memorable entertainment in honour of St. Patrick’s Day. •
