[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, March ISThe Borough Council last evening made a grant of £5O towards the expenses of the Home Guard, in t ne West Coast area, as requested by the Area Commander, for stationery, postage, and petrol ror membeis travelling a distance of three miles pr over to attend iN.C.O. classes, i Last month |t,he local aoattoii dealt with 39 cows, 19 heifers, 51 bullocks, 137 lambs, 277 sheep, 24 pigs, 4 calves. Condemned: 2 cows, 1 heifer, 1 sheep. Fees for the month amounted to £76 7s, compared with £B6 5s for the corresponding montn last year. Lower Jollie Street had been chopped down and thrown into the river. It was decided to replace them with iron rails. Mrs R. M. Tinetti and foui« others wrote asking that the footpath on west side of Sale Street between Stafford and Hampton Streets, be gravelled. It was decided that, the matter be attended to. Mr J. Taylor, Kanieri Road, asked for domestic water supply to his premises.—Granted. Mr Frank Stuart, North Brittan Street was granted a domestic water service connection to his house erected on section 138 and his request for formation of Brittan Street to his frontage was referred to the Works Committee to report. Mrs D. Spencer, Cobden, applied for medical expenses caused through injury to her son in Cass Square on February 1, 1941. —The matter was dealt with in committee and referred to an insurance company. Westland County Council forwarded an account for £l5 17s 6d,', being half cost in connection with the Hokitika aerodrome. —Payment was deferred. Use of Cass Square for school sports, with the clearing of a track of 110 yards was granted. Mr T. E Williams wr.ot e asking that footpath on the north side of Park Street between his frontage and Sale Street, be cleared of growth and formed. No action was taken as to a request by Mrs M. Fitzgerald that the- Council pay half the cost of tar sealing a footpath. Permission was granted the P. and T. Department to erect a public telephone-call box in Stafford Street, near Davie Street, placino- the cabinet against and on the footpath side of the Kanieri Electric Power pole in Stafford Street, approximately»24 yards qn the Kanieii sidy of Davie Street.
