BIGGEST SHAREHOLDER

GOVERNMENT’S REVENUE FROM GAS COY. WELLINGTON. February 11. A reference was made to taxation by Mr G. P. Knight, Chairman of Directors at the Wellington Gas Company’s annual meeting. He told the meeting that the Government was in reality their largest shareholder, and he foreshadowed a possible reduction in the dividend, if the present trend in the taxation burden continued. He characterised it as very unfair that the Gas Company should he subject to heavy taxes, from which electrical undertakings operating in the same territory were exempt.
