The Dutch East Indies are, thus far, not dissatisfied with the progress of the Japanese-Dutch negotiations, but they recognise that the future trend of the negotiations probably will depend largely on events hi Europe, sayjS the correspondent of “The Times” in Singapore. Mr Yoshizawa told a Dutch newspaper that the Japanese have submitted a memorandum to the Dutch delegation, providing a solid basis lor discussions in order to give shape to Japan’s wishes for an increase dn trade with the Dutch Indies, and especially to secure a bigger share of the East Indies’ exports of minerals. The memorandum has also indicated Japan’s desire to participate on a bigger scale in the development of the East Indies oil industry. Japan like every great nation, had aspirations, but she does not intend forcibly to impose the New Order on the East Indies. Mr Yoshizawa also pointed out that Japan had no desire to re-shape the map of Europe. Japanfs Requests FOR RIGHTS IN EAST INDIES DUTCH OBJECTION. (Received Feb. 7, 10 p.m.). LONDON, February 7. “The Times” Singapore correspondent says: It is understood that the Dutch have presented counter-pro-posals to the Japanese requests, which requests Include permission for the Japanese to explore the outer islands and for the right to establish a Japanese air line to the East Indies, and also for mining and fishing concessions: for the exploitation of undeveloped areas by Japanese; for permission for Japanese professional men to enter the East Indies; and also for the right to establish small Japanese businesses.
