death in sleep RUGBY, February 5. Lord Lloyd (Colonial Secretary), died peacefully in his sleep, at midnight. aged 61 years. . . Soldier, politician, and administrator Lord Lloyd served in the NearEast in the last war, and won the DS O His Parliamentary career was interrupted when he became Governor of Bombay, and again when he became High Commissioner for Egypt and the Sudan. He was created a peer on this appointment, and, on returning to England, took a leading part in the House of Lords’ debates on Empire affairs. He was keenly interested in the work of the British Council for Cultural Relations with foreign countries, of which he was the first president, and he inaugurated branches in several European capitals.
