So is Louis King’s direction. * Based on one of the exciting episodes in J. Edgar Hoover’s book, g “Persons in Hiding,” -the picture ree lates the case of a brilliant but weak- " willed surgeon and a building _con- ' tract who are in cahoots with a gang of ruthless killers. The doctor falls t in with the crooks when he finds that financial success is still very far away. ' Soon his illicit earnings are sufficient >' to establish an expensive office where s the city’s society folk and heiresses come for treatment. A rich, society girl 'is about to be married to the undercover doctor when she is saved from ultimate disgrace by the timely intervention of the G-Men. “Undercover Doctor” is well worth seeing. “HERITAGE OF THE DESERT” ! Lovers of the great outdoors will . enjoy “Heritage of the Desert” which [ is now showing at the Opera House. . For here is one of the greatest Westerns H. Sherman has produced for Paramount. The story is swift-moving, rushing from one action-packed 1 scene to the next. It’s about a young tenderfoot who shows his heels to I the soft life he’s been leading to ■ search for life, love and fortune out on the western plains. He almost doesn’t make 'it when his scheming representative out west sends one of . his henchmen to put him on the spot lest he discover the agent’s thievery. The gunman almost succeeds, but luckily for the tenderfoot, a pious j ranchman rescues the half-dead east- . ! erner and brings him home to his ■ j desert ranch. The stranger wins back I liis strength under the kindly care lof the rancher’s lovely daughter. A j jealous cowhand warns the tenderfoot to keep going if he wants to I preserve his health. Of course, the i tenderfoot refuses to budge. And be- ' fore long, the screen is crowded with ’ fighting, shooting, riding trouble-mak-ers. Featured in the cast are Don.I aid Woods, Evelyn Venable, Russell I “Lucky” Hayden, Robert Barrat and j Sidney Toler. Lesley Selander directI ed it.
