TRANSFER OF INDUSTRY
NO. 13 SCHEME WORKERS. AUCKLAND, February 4. Large transfers of men from the No. 13 relief scheme to private employment have been taking place. This week over 60 men left subsidised work with local bodies and were given employment a's builders’ labourers and with a number of factories. The movement of men from subsidised work is due chiefly to scarcities of labour developing because of enlistments and military service obligations. Not long ago the State Placement Service combed the ranks of No. 13 scheme workers because of the need for men on farms. Large numbers were placdd with farmers, and those who remained were required to show ■ good cause why they should not go into the country. Relief workers now on the scheme are practically all married men with families.
