HOME GUARD

Bigger Parade Last Night The weekly parade of the Greymouth Home Guard was held last levelling at the Drill Hall and in Petrie Avenue, the attendance of members being the largest recorded to date, over 100 parading. Further instruction in the use of rilles was given, together with advanced instruction in squad drill. Sunday’s allday parade at Omoto Racecourse should be particularly interesting as over 150 members, including the Cobden unit have signified their intention of attending. Training will be carried out on lines following the instruction given in last Sunday’s parade, which was interrupted early on account of heavy rain. Colonel C. E. Butcher, the ollicer commanding, stated last evening that he was particularly pleased with the progress being made and also with the increased attendances. He expressed the opinion that the training of members was now so far advanced that an early start can be made with training in night operations.
