Idkalong Races WIN FOR WELLINGTON. CHRISTCHURCH February 5. The second Idle Along championship yacht race resulted in a win for Wellington by 15 seconds, from Nelson, with Canterbury third. The final race will he held at Timaru. DETAILS OF THE RACES. CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. By winning the first three races, lhe Wellington crew has won the Idlealong sailing championship for 1941. The second and third races were decided at Lyttelton to-day, Wellington winning the morning race after :i close contest with Canterbury, and winning the afternoon race easily. The members of the winning crew are: C. Stutter (skipper), H. G. Stutter, and E. Gibson. The Canterbury and Nelson crews were the two crews which showed the next best performance.

This morning’s race was over a triangular course, and was started al 10.30 a.m. in a light southerly wind. Crows of two were-carried. At the cnii of the first round Canterburyled Nelson by 2min. ' 1 sec. with Wellington, 7 secs, behind Nelson. Wellington did well on the beat in the second round, and rounded the marg--55 secs, ahead of Canterbury, who had the same margin over Nelson. The wind was failing during me last round, but Wellington increased their lead on the run, and, stallingoff a challenge by Canterbury during lhe final heat, won by 20 secs. The finish was:—Wellington 1 hr. 11 min. 55 secs, 1; Nelson 1 hr. 12 min. 15 secs, 2; Canterbury 1 hr. 12 min. 20 secs.; 3; Westland 1 hr. 18 min, 4; Marlborough 1 hr. 21 min. 20 secs., 5. The afternoon race was started at 3 o’clock in a light southerly over a windward and leeward course. On the run. Wellington soon showed superior sailing. The West Coast crew also put in a good burst. Wellington rounded the mark first 1 min. 40 sec. ahead of Canterbury, followed closely by West Coast and Nelson. Marlborough retired without completing the round. Failing wind made the beat very slow. At this stage, the West Coast skipper decided to withdraw, having fouled a buoy at the start of the race. Wellington now had a big lowol. and finished the second round five minutes ahead of Canterbury, with Nelson another live minutes later. The wind freshened again for the final round, but Wellington now had a commanding lead, and the finish was:—Wellington, 5 hrs. 10 min. 30 secs., 1; Canterbury, 5 hrs. 18 min. 55 secs., 2; Nelson, 5 hrs. 19 min. 25 secs. u. $ who attended the meeting, gave evidence about the affray.
