GERMAN EXECUTIONS. BERLIN, February 3. Ruth Schubert, aged 20, and Kari Schapper, 62, were convicted of high treason and beheaded. INDIAN SEAMEN. CALCUTTA February 3. The Indian Seamen’s Union has decided to withdraw from the Trades Union Congress, as a protest at the failure lo give them a lead in the war against Fascism. KING AND GENERAL METAXAS. RUGBY, February 3. The following message has been sent from the King to the King of the Hellenes: “I learnt with deep distress of the death of General Metaxas. Greece has lost one of her greatest sons, who will be mourned m my country a's sincerely as in Greece. I offer you my heartfelt sympathy in the cruel blow which has fallen so suddenly on the Greek people.”
The reply received read: “Your sympathy on the great loss I have suffered touched me very deeply. It is a cruel blow which has fallen so suddenly on my people and myself. The sincere participation of your country in our distress encourages us in our determination to carry on with the same spirit, until the victorious conclusion of the war.’’
