An Improver: Happy Man showed a lot of speed at Timaru, but faded when the real pressure was applied. This gelding has improved a good deal in the last few months.

Gifted with Speed: /■t the Timaru meeting on Saturday few horses showed more speed than Warfield, who, after losing a lot of ground in the Levels Handicap, finished fourth behind Busted Flush, Sir Julien, and MacGregor. If he could be depended upon to begin smartly Warfield would have a rare chance in the Electric Handicap at Forbury Park.

Busted Flush: Busted Flush who has won in her last two starts’, will have a further opportunity of adding to her record at Forbury Park. On the first day she claims two engagements, and her best prospects appear to be in the King George Handicap, where her name appears on the limit of a 3min. 27sec. class. At Timaru on Saturday she recorded 3min. 22sec. from a 3 min. 32sec. mark. In her first engagement, the Electric Handicap, Busted Flush is handicapped on 3min. 28sec., or 24yds. behind, and later in the day is giving away 12 yards to be in the'King George Handicap. At Timaru:

It is reported that at the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting the stipendiary steward, Mr. F. J. Beer, who was" in charge, had occasion to call the stewards together once in the afternoon to consider a charge of interference by R. Meservy, driver of Gold Chief, in the championship. After an inquiry that lasted some time it was found that any interference caused was not attributable to carelessness on the part of the driver. I inheritance: The victory of J. McLennan, ,jun., in the mile saddle race at the Timaru meeting on Saturday brings back memories cf his father, who some 20 years ago was in the first flight of New Zealand's trotting horsemen. At the Metropolitan spring meeting in 1920 J'. McLennan drove six winners, a record equalled at the same meeting by F. G. Holmes, the pair winning half the programme between them. McLennan was equally at home in saddle or sulky, with pacer or trotter, and he holds the distinction of having wen more than one mile saddle race with a trotter against the pacers. At the Forbury Park meeting in 1935 he rode Admiral Bingen to win the Pacific Handicap, a mile saddle race, in 2rnin. 13 4-5 sec., and among his most notable wins are the Dunedin Cup with Tatsy Dillon, the Free-for-All with Albert Cling, and the Dominion Trotting Handicap with Effie Bingen and Elzear. At one meeting at Addington he won four races with Cello Sydney Wilkes.
