WAGE INCREASE
LOCAL BODY EMPLOYEES. CHRISTCHURCH, January 15. Wage increases are to be provided by the new award for local bodies’ employees in the South Island (urban section), for which clauses were settled in Conciliation Council yesterday. Mr. S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, said after lire meeting that, there would be increases of 2/6 a week for weekly workers making the wage £4/15/-, and Id. an hour for hourly workers, making the wage 2/5 an hour. Gardeners would receive 2/7 an hour (an increase of one penny). The award will apply to employees of borough councils, town, road, hospital, domain and ’ harbour boards (where the Harbour Board Award does not apply), and it will operate for one year. The date of commencement has not been fixed yet. Assessors for the employees were: Messrs D. Harris (Invercargill), F. O’Connor (Gore), R. Walker (Timaru), R. Harison (Dunedin), E. B. Fitzpatrick (Blenheim), P. M. Butler (Wellington), and Miss M. B. Howard (Christchurch). Assessors for the employers were: Messrs E. B. Lothian (Balclutha), R. J. Dunkley (Blenheim), A. R. Tuffnoil (Mayor of Richmond), W. H. Hall (Timaru), 11. F. Rutland (Christchurch) D. Harvey (Gore), and C. W. Tyler (Rangiora).
