SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. NELSON, January 14. In the final of the’ South Island open croquet championships, Mrs. Henderson (Wellington') beat ’Mrs. Cadwallader (Wellington). 26-16, 26-24. In the handicap singles final, Mrs. Palmer (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Gilbert (Westport), 26-24. In the championship doubles final. Mesdames Gilbert and Nottle (Weslport) beat Mesdames Frost (Nelson) and Bassett (Masterton), 26-9. In the women’s championship semi-finals, Mrs. Palmer beat Mrs. Yowery 26-16, Mrs. Cadwallader beat. Mrs. Frost 26-14. In the final of the handicap doubles Kirk (Timaru) and Mrs. Costello (Nelson) beat Inwood and Mrs. Inwood (Nelson).
I RUNANGA V. MAKURA. j Runanga defeated Makura in a return match in the Collinson Banner competition, played at Greymouth. Scores, with Runanga' players mentioned first in each instance, were as follows: —Mrs. McCracken (three bisques) defeated Mrs. Whibley (one bisque) 26/11; Mrs. Wilson (six bisques) defeated. Mrs. Robertson (four bisques) 26/8, Mrs. McCracken (three bisques) and Mrs. Erickson (seven bisques) defeated Mrs. Whib-
ley (one bisque) and Mrs. Robertson (four bisques) 26/23, Mrs. Wilson (six bisques) and Mrs. Howard (six bisques) defeated Mrs. McKay (four bisques) and Mrs. Warnes (four bisques) 26/22. At a gala' day conducted by the Makura Club, competition winners were as follows:—Mrs. Whibley (circles), Mrs. Robertson (golf’ croquet), and Mrs. Mercer (French golf croquet).
