AIR WAR ALTERING

NEW BRITISH MOVE To Begin Offensive iAus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.J (Received January 15, 7.1 b p.m.) LONDON, January 14. “R.A.F. planes now are engaged in a gigantic task of shifting the air frontier, and that is the meaning of remarkable operations undertaken in the last few days,” says the “Daily Telegraph.” “Daily and nigntly the enemy must now expect a hammering from the air such as no nation in history has had to withstand. The air frontier with *every fresh assault will be pushed farther and farther over and into Germany. The R.A.F., bcause of numerical inferiority, was on the defensive in August and September, fighting mostly over Britain. It was only able at night time to assume the offensive. The position is now .different. After being over the south coast and over London, the air frontier is shifting to the French coast and German bases beyond. This is th e clearest and most positive sign of growing air strength. "We shall lose more heavily. That is almost certain, and it must be accepted as the price of a sustained offensive, but the tolal effect on the German war effort will be far more marked in our favour >han that of successes in defensive operations. We shall employ a technical superiority greater than last year, and a number of aircraft approaching and soon exceeding the enemy’s air strength.”

The enemy is working on similar lines. Our bombers, meeting night fighters over Germany, shot down several.
