[Our Own Correspondent! REEFTON, December 17. At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, before Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., Robert Wright, for riding a motor-cycle without being the holder of a driver’s license was convicted and fined £1 with costs 10s. For being found on licensed premises after hours nine first offenders were , each fined 5s with costs 10s. ’ The following applications were granted at the Warden’s Court: W. , T. Strand, special quartz claim; W. r J. Webster, an ordinary prospecting license; F. J. Dodd, ordinary pros5 pecting license (objected to by J. B. f Cooper and F. Cooper); G. ' The monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council was held today, Cr. J. McGregor occupying the chair. Other members present were, Crs. W. Clayton, W. Blackadder, W. 1 T. Hempseed, Mirfin, T. R. Watson, F. Seawright and Mr W. B. Auld (County Clerk). Correspondence was dealt with as follows: From L. On the . motion of Crs McGregor and Clayton ■ it was decided to donate the sum of £3 3s to the fund. Patterson and Son forwarding plan of mining areas applied for by the Snowy River Gold Dredging Co., Ltd.; from the Superintendent of the Grey River Dredging'Co., Ltd. asking for permission for two power line road crossings as per plan. —The Engineer’s action in the matter was endorsed. From the Controller of Employment re subsidy towards establishment of lime works in the Maruia district; from the Registrar of the Social Security Department re Maruia Hostel road.—lt : was reported that this matter had j been dealt with. From the District Engineer, PublicWorks, re Blair’s road estimates. From Hon. P. C. Webb re (a) river erosion at sections 129 and 131 a, Blk. XIII, Reefton S.D.; (b) and road access to D. M. Carson’s property at Maruia. The MinAstefr stated that he had taken up the matters with the Minister of Public Works but regretted that hi s efforts had not been ■successful. From E. J. Creighton, Maruia, applying for a subsidy to wards the cost of a --swing bridge across Maruia River giving access to his property.—lt was resolved that the matter be left n the hands of the Engineer with . approval to expend up to HO as subsidy. From the District Engineer of Public Works re plans for the completion of the proclamation of Blair’s road.—Resolved that the Engineer and County Clerk attend to the preparation lor signature. From the Public y Works Department asking the Coun- ’ cil to contribute the sum of £ll 5s towards the cost of the approaches ‘ of the Mairs Road-Wooley’s bridge.— ' It was moved by Cr. Seawright, sec- ’ onded by Cr Blackadder that the ’ amount be forwarded. Cr. Mirfin ’ stated that he had been approached ; with reference to the appointment of ’ a Justice of the Peace in the Ikama--5 tua township. It was decided to hold the matter over until the next meet- ’ ing. It was stated that the residents 3 of Hukarere had complained of the ’ excessive speed of motors travelling ; through . that township and it was ; decided that the Engineer erect suit- " able speed restriction signs. It was decided that the Engineer give attention to the footpaths in Buller Road as soon as possible. It was resolved 5 that the County Offices close for the 3 holidays on December 20 and re-open ‘ for business on Monday, January 6. ’ Before concluding the meeting, the 1 chairman took the opportunity of ex--3 tending to Councillors his best wishes ■ for a Merry Xmas and a happy and ’ prosperous New Year. - Reporting on works, the County - Engineer, Mr M. Fennell, stated: > Boatman’s short track has been 1 metalled and patched throughout ! also the road to Burke’s Creek mine. 1 On Anderson’s road, metal patching ■ has been attended to. Broadway ’ and streets adjacent have received an '■ overhaul, grass, etc., being removed. ’ The sealing work on Sinnamon St. ! from Broadway to Buller Road is completed with exception of turnout to side streets which will be-com-pleted later. The sealing of centre strip in Broadway between Sinnamon Street and Crampton Road is ' under way and will be completed before The Public Works Department was interviewed re sealing portion of Bridge Street between Broadway and Church Street to full width. The arrangement suggested is that Council attended to the preparation work and Highways Board attend to the sealing. This, I understand, has been recommended to head office for approval. Grass has been cut in Memorial Plot and Jubilee Park will be attended to before the holidays. The pipe-line to Auld’s Creek has been cleaned throughout of growth, etc. Water delivered through meter at Westland Brewery was 24,060 gallons. On Murray Creek road four No. 13 Scheme men have been employed full time on the work of reconstructing thi§. road. On Nilsson’s Road, Maruia, arrangements have been made to have necessary metal patching attended to. On Palmer’s and Hunter’s Roads, Maruia. metal patching has been attended to and the roads are in good order. To place necessary sewer pipes to give access to Mi" Hardie’s section will cost £2O. The work" of widening and preparing the main street in Waiuta for sealing is under way. Maintenance has been attended to on the remainder of the road. On Snowy River road metal patching and general repairs have been attended to. Burials for the period numbered four. Benzine consumption totalled 389 gallons. Of other matters referred to the Engineer for attention, Jubilee Park is under way. The metalling of Caples Street has been held over. As to additional No. 13 Scheme men for Boatman’s short track, none were available. Noxious weeds at Beresford’s frontage have been attended to. Grey River dredge has been inspected. Notices have been posted for removal of soil from roads. The matter of preventing fires on hillsides is in hand. The County Inspector reported two candidates had passed driving license tests. On December 4 No. 1 reservoir was empty. No. 2 and No. 3 were full, the open race had a good flow of water. Auld’s Creek pipeline has been cleared of root growth with the result that this pipe-line is up to its normal capacity. All reservoirs were full on December 11 and the water races were carrying' a good flow of water. On December I
