[Our Own correspondent] Brunner Defence Rifle Club on Saturday evening in the Taylorville Domain’s new pavilion reception-hall held its annual banquet and presentation of trophies, and a very enjoyable evening was spent, representatives of Greymouth Defence and Miniature Clubs, and Runanga Miniature Cluo being present, wnil e there was als'o a large representation,, of sporting bodies of the district. The club had a very successful season, with record scoring in both the handicap championship and belt championship, whil e each trophy was competed for keenly. It is unfortunate that the club will be unable to carry on this season on account of no ammunition being available, but it, is intended to start a miniature rifle club, the new pavilion making provision, in addition to general sporting requirements and dance hall, for an up-to-date indoor rifle range. The Handicap Championship (15 highest scores, handicap included) wag won by Rifleman R. Boqstridge, with a record score. Rifleman G. Smith, runnerup, shot from scratch throughout the season. The scores were: R. Boustridge 1505; G. Smith 1500. The Championship Belt was won for tne eighth consecutive season by Rifleman Smith with a record! score of 1006, next being Rifleman G. Eder 098. Mrs T. Morgan again presenled the cldb with a birthday cake (the. eighth), which wa s cut during the banquet, and to her, and also to the ladies who attended to the arrangements for the banquet, the club extends its thanks. ■ Brunner Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting in the Combined Sports Clubs’ new pavilion at Taylorville on Tuesday evening, Mrs Martin (president) presiding over a fair attendance, several members being absent on account of other attractions. The meeting opened with the Institute song, Mrs Pender playing the accompaniment, and the Aspirations were read by Mrs Moore. Mrs Martin welcomed several visitors. Competitions, community singing and Christmas carols were held. Mrs Martin contributed a solo, Miss Watson being the accompanist. Results of the competitions were: Christmas novelty not costing more than Is, Mrs Martin;,' sponge sandwich, Mrs Richardson. Other com-

petition winners were Mesdames Martin, Smith and Moore. A dainty supper was served, and a pleasant evening concluded with “Auld Lang Syne,” the president extending best wishes to all for a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
