WAIUTA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] The death took place at the Reefton Hospital on Wednesday, after a brief illness of Mr. John Jobling, second son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Jobling, Waiuta. Deceased, who was only’ 22 years of age, was a native of England, and came to Waiuta some twelve years ago to reside with his parents. He was very popular and highly esteemed, and a wide circle of friends heard with sincere regret of his passing at such an early age. Besides his father and mother, he leaves one brother, Corpl. M. D. Jobling, 2nd. N.Z.E.F., Overseas, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.

The many local friends of Mr. Bert Phare heard with sincere regret of his death which took place at Auckland last week. The late Mr. Phare, who married a former Waiuta girl (Miss Anne O’Donnell), had visited Waiuta on several occasions, and made a host of friends. To his widow is extended the sympathy of their many Waiuta friends. Mr. J’im Young, left for Christchurch on Monday evening for medical treatment. He was accompanied by his sister, Mrs. G. and Miss Alice Myall. Mr. M. Lines, who is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is making satisfactory progress. Mrs. McKane, of Reefton, was a visitor to Waiuta on Wednesday as the guest of Mrs. Pat Connors. Mr. D. Darby (Albion Hotel, Greymouth), was a visitor during the week. The weekly Patriotic euchre on Monday night was well attended. Mrs Marsden won the ladies’ prize, and Mr. M. Begovic the gent’s. A competition for two parcels of goods donated by Mr. T. Beckwith, were won by Mrs. Vai Leathwick, and Mr. M. Parrish. Mr. Basil Hempseed has entered the ranks of trotting enthusiasts, and has a colt foal by tl. Scott from Blush running on Mr. W. O’Malley’s property at Ikamatua. Although a twin, the colt is sturdy, the filly dying at foaling.
