LOur Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, December 5. The river tnis afternoon was in high flood, following heavy rain this morning, after storms through the night. Rimu Flat dredge this week obtained 121ozs sdwts of gold for 121 hours from 36,736 yards. Last month' the dredge secured 5090zs lOdwts from 167,b0d yards lor 520 hours. The m.v. Hokitika is due here next week from Wellington and Greymouth. A gold nugget raffle drawn last night at Kanieri was won by G. Oates, Ruatapu. A snark 8?- feet in length with a girth of nearly four feet, was caught yesterday with a line here by Mr G. Howe, tne catch being a difficult one. It was a small-mouthed, flat-nosed type, not like the type usually found m Coast waters.

Koiterangi Women’s Institute’s monthly meeting was well attended, Mrs Havill presiding, and the competition results were: Best bloom, senior Mrs Coulson 1, Mrs A. S. Havill 2, ’and Mrs Smith 3; junior, Miss M. de Filippi; three potatoes, Mrs A. Si HaviH 1, Mrs Harcourt 2, Mrs Fearn 3. It was decided to hold a picnic on Sunday, January 5 and a Christmas party on Wednesday next. The local Patriotic Fund receipts last month were £lB7 6s 3d.
