Shipping: ■ WESTPORT. December 4The Plolmlea is due from New Plymouth to load coal for Wanganui. The Totara is expected from Tokomaru Bay on Friday to load coal for Gisborne.

The Poolta is expected from Gisborne on Friday afternoon to load coal for Wellington.

The Wingatui i s expected from Wellington on Saturday to load coal for return to the same port. The Kaitoa is due from Nelson on Sunday, to load coal for Picton. The Kakapo is due from Lyttelton and Wellington duriirg the week-end and loads coal for Auckland on Monday. Personal:

Pilot Officers K. J. Creighton and C. Johnson were in Westport yesterday interviewing applicants- for service in the Fleet Air Arm. Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., will not preside at this morning’s session of th e Magistrate’s Court because of the death of his brother. Messrs J. M. Robertson and F. Morgan, Justices of the Peace, will preside instead.

Patriotic Fund: The treasurer of the Buller District Controlling Committee acknow-' ledges the sum of £ll2 13s 9d from the Karamea Patriotic Committee, being £lO6 13s 9d gala day at Kongahu on the King’s Birthday, £5 competition at Oparara and £1 Nelson raffle, also 10s from O.A.P. for All Purposes Appeal.

Matinee Trotting MeetingA monster matinee trotting meeting is being held on Saturday aftermoon at the Mill Street course in aid of Patriotic Funds. A procession will leave the Post Office at 2 p.m., when Lady Godiva and the Municipal Band will head a parade of the horses participating in the events. Messrs Nowman Bros, and Gibb’s Motors have generously offered buses to convey passengers to and from the course, charges geing 6d single, Is return. Mr Claude Walsh has generously donated a sheep or lamb for a guessing competition, and has also consented to pasture it until Christmas if the winner so desires. In addition to the trotting events, a number of novelty events are being held.
