Lieutenant E. A. Fairman N.Z.A. Fort Dorset, Wellington, lejaves on return to-day after a visit to his brother, Mr J. Fairman, Dobson.
A London cablegram states that Rear-Admiral Harwood, who commanded the British naval forces in the Battle of the River Plate against the Graf Spee, has been appointed a Sea Lord of the Admiralty.
Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United kingdom in New Zealand, left yesterday morning for Christchurch, by car, accompanied by Lady Batterbee. They left last evening for Wellington.
Guests at Revington’s Hotel include the following: Mr R. D. Welsh, Mr and Mrs Duncan (Wellington) Mr H. Kitson, Mr A. E. Stock, Mr B.’ Clarkson, Mr and Mrs L. Gasson, Mr and M£S D. Gunn (Christchurch), Mr P. H. Noble (Nelson).
Mr James Bourke, who has been a patient at Oranui Private Hospital for the past fortnight, has made good progress towards recovery, and will be returning to his home tomorrow.
Sergeant R. C. Mcßobie, of Christchurch, arrived yesterday to relieve at Greymouth, pending a permanent appointment to replace Sergeant A. H. Barnes, who was recently transferred to Taihape.
To celebrate the birthday of Miss Phyllis Ida Thomas, second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr F. Thomas, of Omoto, whose engagement to Mr Jack Uren, of Dobson has been announced, an enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Thompson, of Dobson. The marriage will take place on Saturday.
