A London cablegram states that Rt. Hon. Neville Chamberlain, who some weeks ago underwent an operation, has now returned to work as a member of the War Cabinet.
General Higinio Morinigo is the provisional President of Paraguay, replacing the late President Estigarriba, who was killed in an aeroplane accident, states an Ascuneion cablegram.

Mr Bernard Allen, New Zealand manager of United Artists (Australasia) Pty., Ltd., died suddenly yesterday morning at a private hospital at Wellington. He was aged 49 years, and was a native of Brisbane, coming to Wellington in 1929 as the New Zealand manager of United Artists. He was a keen fisherman.
Mr J. F. O’Connor, of Christchurch, has replaced Mr E. Pratt in the clerical staff of the Railways parcels office at Greymouth. Mr Pratt has left to join the Fleet Air Arm. Mr V. V. Butcher, of the clerical staff, Christchurch, will arrive on Saturday to join the staff of the paicels office at Greymouth. He will replace Mr W. J. Rea, who will shortly enter military camp.

Major M. E. Johnston, M.C., N.Z.S.C., who is going on leave prior to retirement, was met at the Nelson Defence Office during the weekend by the Nelson stall and representatives of the sub-area offices at Westport, Greymouth and Blenheim, who made him a presentation. A presentation was also made by Sergeant Foster, on behalf of the Nelson Marlborough Mounted Rifles, and Major Johnson was also presented with an engraved trophy from the Ist. Battalion of the Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment. Other members, ooth of the military and civilian staffs, briefly wished Major Johnson many pleasant years of retirement. Captain C. R. Duke, M.C., N.Z.T.S., expressed on behalf of the staff best wishes to Major Johnson. _____
