SHEPHERD DROWNED
IN FLOODED CREEK. HASTINGS, September 9. A single shepherd boy, Douglas McKeown, aged 22, was swept from his horse and drowned in attempting to ford a flooded creek in the Waipawa district on Sunday. His horse was found that afternoon with the saddle wet, and the saddlebags full of water. A search was begun immediately by the police and a parry of farmers, and (he body was found in a deep hole, about, haif a mile below the crossing place this afternoon. Tlio creek is on e which is almost dry in summer time, and floods considerably in winter. After th G weekend’s torrential rain in. Hawke’s Bay, it rose 15 feet. McKeown’s parents reside in Mataura, Southland.
