BUTTERFAT PRICE

INCREASE SOUGHT. LEVIN, September 9. The necessity for an increase in Ihe prices of butterfat and cheese was stressed at a meeting of the Levin Farmers’ Union, when the following! resolution was carried:— “Farmers of New Zealand are prepared to forgo an increase in the price ef farm produce as a contribution to the war effort, provided internal costs are not raised against them, but as the dice is being loaded more and more against the real producers of wealth, they have no alternative but to demand a higher price in order to offset the evergrowing increase in the cost of production. They are also of the opinion that if this state of affairs is not remedied production will he stifled at its source. This branch, therefore, calls on all other branches for their support in a demand for an increase in the price of butterfat and cheese for the current, year and gives full support to the Dairy Industry Council in whatever action it may deem necessary in order lo obtain this increase.” The meeting gave its full support to the Motor Trade Federation in its request to the Government for increased petrol allowance.
