ALIENS IN BRITAIN
ADVISORY COUNCIL To Maintain Their Morale [British Official Wireless.] (Received August 4 7 p.m.) RUGBY', August 3. The personnel of the Advisory Council on Aliens will include Lord Lytton (chairman), Viscount Cranbourne, Mr Noel Baker, Sir Neill Malcolm, and Lord Winterton. The functions of the Council will be as follows :—
To suggest measures for maintaining the morale of aliens in Britain so as to bind them more closely to our common cause.
To revise, and if necessary to suggest, measures for the co-ordination, to that end, of the work of various refugee committees and other voluntary organisations concerned with the aliens in Britain. To maintain contact with various Government Departments having responsibilities in connection with refugees and other classes of aliens, and with foreign Governments or national committees established in Britain. To advise and assist the Home Office in arrangements made for the welfare of enemy aliens in internment camps. To study and make recommendations upqn the problem of finding occupations for the enemy aliens in internment camps. ; The Council will work in close association with the Foreign Office, and will maintain a close liaison with other departments concerned. REFUGEES IN LONDON RELIGIOUS SERVICE RUGBY, August 3. A special service for refugees was held this afternoon in the Church of St. John’s, Westminster. The churcn was completely filled with refugees from Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. An address was given in English by Mr D. A. C. Craig, secretary of the Central Committee for Prisoners o' War and Refugees from Central Europe, and an address was also given, in German, by Pastor Wolfgang Busing, minister of a German church.
