DUNEDIN THEFT SENTENCES DUNEDIN,’ August 2. On charges of breaking and entering and theft, Cyril Evans and Thomas Walter Ford, both aged 27 years, were sentenced by Mr J’ustice Kennedy in the Supreme Court to one year’s reformative detention. Michael Fitzgerald, who was associated with them in the offence was admitted to probation, his previous record being unblemished. Thomas Francis Sullivan, Samuel Henry Holden, and David Reginald Holden on charges of breaking and entering, and stealing petrol while touring the country in a car, were all admitted to probation for three years, conditional on restitution. The Judge commented that it was extraordinary that the. younger Holden, who was an infant in the eyes of the law, should be tempted to buy a car for £9O, on hire purchase.

DEFENDED DIVORCE.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 1

A finding that adultery had been proved was returned by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday, in the petition for divorce by Frederick Harns, a brick-maker, against Eveline Gertrude Harris on the ground of adultery with Hilton Roy Adams, a lacocrer, who was cited as co-respon lent. Mr C. V. Lester appeared for the petitioner, Mr K. G. Archer for respondent. and Mr D. W. Russel for the co-respondent. His Honour, Mr Justice Nortlr.roft said that he would give his decision later. The petitioner is also seeking custody of the one child of the marriage.
