The weather report is as follows: — General situation: A weak depression is crossing the North Island, while an intense anti-cyclone covers Tasman Sea and the South Island. Pressure is high also to the east. Forecast: Winds from a southerly quarter predominating, the force mainly light or moderate, but fresh to strong at first in parts of the southern half of the North Island, decreasing, however, later and becoming variable in many places. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough in Cook Slrait-Taranaki Bight region; slight to moderate elsewhere; rising somewhat between Castlepoint and East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea: Lignt variable winds, and slight to moderate seas. Weather mainly fair to cool but mist or drizzle in eastern 'fis- t tricts between Banks Peninsula and Bast Cape, and in a few isolated places elsewhere. Conditions are improving gradually, however, from the south
