The Harbour Board yesterday reelected as chairman Mr. M. H. Houston, who at present is aj patient at the Westland Hospital, and the Boara also passed a resolution expressing the wish for hi s speedy recovery. Mrs. E. C. Toohey has left for Christchurch on a holiday visit. At Addington Stock Market yesterday West Coast sales included McDonnell Bros., (Totara ,Flat), 7 steers at £2O/7/6 to £23/7/6, heife* at £18; Mrs. Diedrich (Lower Kokatahi), 8 steers at Hl/7/6 to £l5/12/6; Mrs. C. Mclntosh (voted to the char), P. Renton, W. E. Richards, F. Freitas and E. W.’ Heenan. Mr Mclntosh referred to the illness of Mr M. Houston (chairman), at present a patient at the Westland Hospital and a resolution was carried expressing the hope that he will soon be well. The attention of the Boara was drawn to what is considered a waste in petrol in the distribution about this district, which is done per medium of tank lorries from Greymouth, whereas this cost could be saved if the petrol were landed in Hokitika as formerly, by boat. It was resolved that the authorities be written to concerning the matter and also that an opportunity be given the Board for voicing its oipnion at the next meeting of the Transport Board. On the motion of Mr Mclntosh seconded by Mr Freitas, Mr H. H. Houston was unanimously reelected chairman. The question of allowing whitebait trenches to be built on the sea-side of the bridge in the north channel was discussed, and it was decided that it would not be wise to allow any obstructions below the bridge on the north side, the Sergeant of Police to be informed of the decision.

Mrs J. Andrews, senr., of Hall Street, Hokitika, celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday last. She was the recipient of felicitations from ah parts of the district, particularly from old Kumaraites. Mrs Andrews is well and retains all her faculties, and entered into the festivities happily. Her 90 years have mostly been spent in Stafford, Kumara, and Hokitika.
