NEW DISPUTE
AUSTRALIAN MINERS Want Wage Rise (Received Aug. 1, 12.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. The Sydney coal .miners are disappointed over Judge Beeby’s award of July 29. They again have threatened a hold-up. Two of their leaders, Messrs Njlson and Orr to-day called on the Prime Minister in Sydney, Mr Menzies, who was en route for Brisbane. They voiced their objections, the chief of which was as to the Court’s failure to grant a five per cent, increase in wages. They also submitted counter proposals for the Govex'nment’s consideration in order to ensure continuity of work on the coalfields.
Mr Menzies had a general discussion with the miners’ officials on the question of co-operation in coal production in connection with the war effort. He assured them that 11. cm proposals would be given every consideration by the Federal Cabinet.
Later the Prime Minister had a talk with representatives of the co <1 owners.
