Soldiers in Auckland have little opportunity to adopt such outlandish pets as were mentioned in a recent message about the doings of the second echelon at Capetown. A territorial infantryman was, however, seen in Queen Street recently with a white mouse sitting upon his shoulder. The mouse was a particularly large and plump one, and seemed perfectly at home on its perch.
