British Convoy Bombed COLUMN CAPTURED IN EAST AFRICA (Received July 31, 1.57 a.m.) ROME, July 31. An Italian communique states: — Yesterday Italian planes repeatedly bombed an enemy convoy of ships in the East Mediterranean, which was escorted by warships, among which was an aircraft carrier. Various units were seriously hit. , One was set on fire, and one enemy pursuit plane ‘was downed. One of cur planes has not returned. In East Africa our occupation of Kurmuk has been extended. We captured an entire enemy column, with food, arms and ammunition. MALTA’S MANY AIR ALARMS. (Received July 30, 5.5 p.m.) MALTA, July 30. The wreckers also blew up a section of the railway in the Heidelberg district. The police arrested many, and seized a large quantity of explosives.
