HOUSING LOAN
COUNTY COUNCIL’S PLAN
WHAKATANE, July 29
On the grounds that the scheme would not benefit those most in need, and that the striking of a special rate was unjust, in that ratepayers would have to suffer for a privileged minority, Mr H. C. McCready criticised the Rural Housing Act at the Whakatane County Council’s monthly meeting. He contended that the State Advances Corporation should deal direct with farmers requiring houses. After a lengthy discussion the council decided to renew its application for a loan of £50,000 for advances to farmers in the county under the terms of the Act.
