NAVAL OFFICER CONVERTS CAR WELLINGTON. Apri? 17. A naval officer. John Edward Leon Sevi. 31, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, and admitted a charge of unlawfully converting a car valued at £lOO. He also pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging a blanket and driving without a license. ah officer from Sevi’s ship said that accused was a key man, and was needed urgently. He was one of the steadiest men on the ship. The S.M. said that Sevi had put himself into an awkward position, but he would probably be of more use on the ship than doing hard labour. Sevi was convicted and discharged on the major charge. He was fined 10/- for driving without a license, and ordered to make good the' value of the blanket. UNION’S ACTION FAILS. TIMARU, April 17Holding that the rules under which the present and immediate past executives and trustees of the Canterbury Builders’ and General Labourers’ Union were elected are invalid, and that the present alleged executive and plaintiff trustees are, therefore, not the executive and trustees of . tne union Mr H. Morgan, S.M., in a reserved judgment to-day, held that the action brought by the union against JA. Mackay and others of the Timaru branch of the union, for the possession of chatties or their value, £lb, and £5 damages for wrongful detention, must fail. Judgment was given for defendants, with costs.
