FEELING IN ITALY

Division Reported LOnILn. April 16 No Italian official of'note has taken up a pro-German line attributed to’ other quarters in Italy that the defeat of the Allies is inevitable. The Italian Press is still without news of the British landing in Norway. Much space is being given to news of ' German reinforcements reaching Norway, reports showing ln-«* genuity in describing the campaign as a German triumph, though later statements are that the campaign is not yet decisive. Orders have apparently been given to the Italian t-ress to bost Germany, and the newspapers are in blinkers Dr Gayda has accused France of pursuing an anti-Italian policy, but there is no hint of this in the Press. The editor of the Italian newspaper “Telegrafo” states that Italy might decide to enter the war sooner than generally realised and has no intention of waking up one morning ana finding himself in the position of Norway This statement has been turned to account in Germany, where it: is claimed to mean that Italy only awaits a favourable opportunity to act Mr Duff-Cooper (ex-War Minister), in a speech, said: There is rising resentment against the present regime in Italy Mussolini has a private personal. dislike of Britain and the Allies. The Press is allowed to say only what Mussolini sanctions. However, others, in no unimportant positions, are great friends of the Allies ROME, April 16.
