iOur Own Correspondent..' HOKITIKA, April 17. In spite of pouring rain, and a late arrival, the 150 soldiers from Burnham Camp who -visited here this afternoon were welcomed by a large assembly, and created by their soldierly bearing a very good impression on all who turned out to see them. Large numbers lined the route of march from the railway station via Stafford, Revell and Hamilton Streets to the Soldiers’ Hall, where the visitors were treated to a substantial luncheon. The parade was in command of S.M. A. Johnson, and there were fifty, returned soldiers present, while school children lined the route of march. Tne Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) presided at the luncheon (which the visitors voted an excellent one), and associated with him were Messrs J. A. Murdoch (County Chairman), Jas. O’Brien, M.P., and Captain S. D. Thorpe. Passengers by Air Travel (N.Z.), Ltd., to-day were: Westport to Wellington, Mr R. H. Betts; Franz Josef to Hokitika, Mr A. C. Graham. Rimu-Woodstock Women’s Institute aj. the annual meeting elected officers as follows: President, Mrs T. Wells; vice-president, Mrs Rasmussen; secretary, Mrs R. Wells. Mesdames Rasmussen and A. Owen were appointed delegates to the council. The social half-hour was spent in written competitions, the winners being Mrs J. Keenan and Mrs R. Wells. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Owen and Rasmussen. It was reported that most of the Institute’s knitting had been sent to the Patriotic Society, also soldiers’ parcels. Miss Imelda Devaney is at present on a visit to Wellington. Miss E. Walker accompanied by her nephew, Russell Eager, returns tomorrow from a visit to Wellington Mrs P. Christian, who has been visiting Wellington, is returning tomorrow.

The Kiwi Football Club’s team to play Ross on Saturday is as follows: H. Mason, A. J. Cooper, R. Burns. J. West, J. Davidson, F. Jordan, P. Hurren, R. Adams, Jim Roberts, S. Diedrichs, H. Pierson, W. Panton, J. Henderson, B. Grenfell, E. Holloway, R. Haddock, D. Chinn, R. L. Roberts.

At its annual meeting, St. Mary’s Literary and Debating Club elected officers as follows: President, Rev. Dr. Harrison; vice-president, Mr M. Dwan; secretary, Mr M. P. Moore; treasurer, Mr T. J. Keown; committee, Messrs P. F. Mulrennan, C. Haussman and J. Henderson. There was an excellent attendance of old and new members present, and in the absence of the president (Captain O. J. Hutchison), Dr. Harrison presided. The report showed that membership had doubled, and the past year had been most successful, largely owing to the efforts of the president. Dr. Harrison. The club’s finances were shown to be in a satisfactory position. After allowing for an extensive addition to the clubrooms, the year concluded with a small credit balance. It was not expected that in the ensuing term intcrclub debates with Greymouth would be possible, though if possible tiro Stuart Cup contest would be held. The nurse’s report for March was as follows: Visitors to homes, Old 60, new 10; visitors to office, adults 171, babies 160, older children 19. New cases, two. Mesdames J. W. Mclntyre and R. F. Aitken were elected to the committee. It was reported that the recent shop day realised the sum of 19 13s Id. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Beck for the loan of a shop. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs F. Fane in her illness and to Mrs R. Cox in the death of her father. Thanks were accorded to Mesdames Brice and B. M. Wilson for opening and closing the rooms daily; to Mrs R. Paterson for sale of emulsion; to the Hokitika “Guardian” for pubfshing reports; to the hon. auditor, Mr A. R.
