Investigations are being made as to two fires that were started on the Westport Coal Company’s Works on Sunday. Luckilv both outbreaks were w..,-.nZ r pd. and the fires were sunnressed before any extensive damage was done. One fire might have destroyed machinery and binns which could not possibly have been replaced for months, and thus have materially affected the output of coal from Denniston, while rendering many employees workless.

The Denniston mines continue tn work steadily. Several have obtained employment to replace those who have .joined the forces. Several minor disnutes and claims have been discussed by the management and the Miners’ Union Executive and a report will be given at the next Union meeting.
