N.Z. WATERFRONT
WELLINGTON CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, March 19. Conditions of work on the waterfront were discussed at a conference among representatives of shipping companies and employees in Parliament buildings yesterday afternoon. Delegates were welcomed by the Deputy-Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), who expressed the wish that the parties would be able to agree on some practical plan that would make for better work, better organisation, and more harmony on the waterfront.
Mr. W. H. Price, on behalf of shipping companies, and Mr. J. Roberts, on behalf of ’the workers, made statements which were handed to the Government.
Mr. Fraser said it was‘pleasing to get the assurances of both sides that they would co-operate to the fullest extent to help the Government in its efforts to institute a satisfactory system,
