War Purposes GIFTS TO GOVERNMENT. ' WELLINGTON, March 14. I “The splendid response to the call for financial assistance in New Zealand's war effort is aditional proof of the national determination to assist in the preservation 'of international justice and democratic rights/’ said Mr Nash, to-day. “It is again my pleasing duty to acknowledge further substantial loans free of interest, and cordially to thank the givers. The £1 000,000 from the Bank of New Zealand, the £lOO,OOO from the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., the thousands and hundreds from bLisiness, professional and other circles, together with sums from those whose means are small, are an inspiration to everyone who has thought out the implications of the present struggle, and I am looking forward to a continuance of the effort between now and Easter.” The full contribution of financial assistance free of interest amounts to over £1,190,000.
