WEDDINGS
HUGHES—THOMPSON. The wedding took place on Saturday at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, of Joyce Louise Thompson, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Leslie J. Thompson, Ruru, and Noel Nigel, son of Mr and Mrs Hughes, Gisborne. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn officiated and Mrs W. H. Baird was at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of creme satin, made in classical style, with a spray of orange blossom at the neckline. Her embroidered veil, which fell to form a train, was mounted with a halQ of flowers and pleated net, and she carried a bouquet of cream begonias and carnations. She was attended by her sisters, Misses Ivy and Betty Thompson, who were dressed alike in frocks of petrel blue sheer georgette, made with heart-shaped necklines and full skirts. They wore posies of rosebuds at the shoulders and halos of net, matching the frocks, and rosebuds matching the posies. They carried bouquets of pink gladioli and begonias, relieved with blue. Dr. Douglas Spence, Hokitika, was best man and Mr Max Birchfield, Ru Ru was groomsman. The reception was held at Harker’s, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a vieux-rose frockf, hat and shoulder spray to tone, and a navy coat. Mr and Mrs N. N. Hughes left by car for Nelson, Picton and Wellington, the bride travelling in a navy coat hat and accessories.
