SYDNEY CATHOLICS
TRIBUTE TO ARCHBISHOP i KELLY. ON 90th. BIRTHDAY. (Received February 13, 11.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 13. The Catholic community gathered in force when there was a public reception to-night in the Sydney Town Hall in honour of the ninetieth birthday of His Grace Archbishop Kelly. The condition of health of the Archbishop permitted him to make only a brief attendance. He was accompanied by his doctor. Archbishop Kelly was presented with a birthday cheque for one thousand pounds, and an address, from the Catholics of the Sydney Archdiocese. All members of the Consular Corps here, and representatives of the Government, the Lord Mayor and the Aidermen were present. The Archbishop is the oldest prelate in Christian world who is in control of a diocese. He succeeded Cardinal Moran in the year 1911. The diocese has since spent over twelve million pounds in the erection of Catholic Church properties.
